The Search for a New Police Chief Columbia, South Carolina
A graduate of South Carolina State University, he received a Master of Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina. He has also attended various other schools for training, including the John F. Kennedy School of Government for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard University. Chief Austin has traveled to several foreign countries to study the concept of community policing.

Update 04/16/04 Dean Crisp, Chief of the Greer, SC Police Department for the last 13 years appointed Columbia's new Chief of Police and is expected to begin sometime in June 2004
